Common questions

What is the best decking for a Hudson Valley deck?

We build on capped composite — Trex Signature for the strongest board, Trex Lineage where a deck bakes in full sun (it runs cooler). It will not rot, holds its color, and carries a 50-year limited residential warranty.

Does composite decking get hot in the sun?

Any dark surface warms up in direct sun. Trex Lineage uses heat-mitigating technology to run cooler than a comparable color, and a lighter tone keeps a full-sun deck comfortable underfoot.

Is pressure-treated wood cheaper than composite?

Cheaper upfront, but the math falls apart: seal or stain every year or two, then graying, cracking, and splinters, and it often goes soft in 10–15 years up here. Composite costs more at the start and far less per year.

Trex vs TimberTech or AZEK — which is better up north?

Both make quality boards. We build on Trex because all-PVC boards move more across our freeze-thaw swings; capped composite stays tighter through northern winters.
